OKAY SO LIKE i tweeted this "rips shirt open the scraps of canon anna material we have tend to make a big deal about how she taught kratos to see good in the world again and the obvious interpretation is that she loved the world and so he loved the world becuase she did but i raise you"

AND

i was going to pull a ywkon fast one on you and "kratos learned to love the world becuase anna reminded him Good People Do Exist" which is just their ywkon dynamic (THEIR YWKON DYNAMIC IS SO VALID) but like

no okay, she's a fucking revolutionary, she is the champion of the oppressed even if all she does is stand on the streets and cuss desians out. she /loves/ the world but it's not unconditional, it's not about the world's beauty it's about the fact every person who exists inherently deserves basic human rights, because people can be good people can be shitty but inherently they are fucking people even if they are assholes

she loves the ideas of justice and fairness more than she is out here to protect the world becuase it is beautiful, or out here to protect the people of this world becuase she has faith in them, but jsut becuase it's the RIGHT FUCKING THING TO DO

and i think if kratos falls in love with her ((though it is absolutely becuase she is the first person in thousands of years other than yuan to call him out on his shit)) it's because there's something fucking intoxicating about someone fighting so passionately for something, someone who puts her everything into this cause she believes in, who takes no shit and believes that this thing is Right and Good with every fiber of her fucking being. she's passionate and a force of nature and even when she was hurt and the desians had her on her knees, even her identity stripped from her, she still kept fighting, she looked cruxis in the eye and said "fuck you and everything you stand for" and kratos said "that's fair"

and if i want to get like, super down to the details i think part of it might be that anna reminds kratos what it was like, when it was just him and mithos and martel and yuan fighting for peace in a never ending war, standing up and fighting against an oppressive world becuase how humanity treated half-elves was unfair. she reminds him what it was like to be young and angry at the world, to want to change it, to BURN with a NEED and a DESIRE to change it, to rage against the unfairness of it and do what you can to stand up and make a change because god DAMMIT i will not let people suffer ANY LONGER. i think she may have been a reality check, of a sort, because obviously mithos is so far gone and kratos has spent so long with yuan that it's in some ways easy to not listen to him even when he is right. and yuan, too-- he is on kratos' side, even if he is backing off from it and trying to undo their mistakes, he is not one of the oppressed. anna is. anna is and she absolutely calls kratos out on his shit and she is new and she is burning and for once in thousands of years he listens, because she rekindles an old fire in his soul that reminds him this is wrong

if i wanna take it a step further and draw my favorite parallels: like, okay, it would be wrong to say that "anna only fights against oppression becuase she was hurt as drastically as she was" becuase she was fighting before the desians ever got their filthy hands on her imo, but. i think she fights harder becuase she has tasted first-hand what they can do, and what they can do is bullshit and inhumane and if she is free then she will fight to make sure they can't hurt anyone else like that

however

a part of me wonders if anna has burned enough to be selfish. anna, inherently, as i know her, would have talked kratos into destroying the desian bases as you do in mainline symphonia. did they try, and the desians just rebuild? they had twenty years to rebuild, so i suppose it would make sense. ((it would also make sense why anna's exsphere is the only surviving one of the angelus project, wouldn't it?))

however: sometimes horrible things can break you, and i wonder if once she is free anna chooses to be selfish. i wonder if, like kratos did once, like mithos has, she chooses to put herself before everyone else, and chooses to be safe instead of being a revolutionary

futher options 1) kratos talks her into it, coward that he is, and her heart has hardened enough that she listens

futher options 2) she decides to wait until they have a key crest figured out for her (she is too sickly to really be a revolutionary, anyway) and she gets neither key crest nor her strength back in time to fuck the desians over as she wishes

further options 3) she and kratos try, they really try, and maybe they get one desian base blown to smitherines, but mithos wants kratos back and kvar wants anna dead and when it comes down to it, cruxis will not let them

anyway

this got soupy, but i guess it's just me trying to reconcile how i see anna with what canon has given me

the point of this is that i see anna as a woman who burns bright with her rage in the face of injustice, and if she teaches kratos how to see beauty in the world through any means, it is becuase he learns to love her, her fire and her fury and her revolution, he learns to love her because she does not take his shit, she refuses to be treated as anything other than his equal, and she reminds him of his own love he once held for the world and the oppressed in it, before four thousand years of grief fucked that over in him

in sum:

(kratos voice) i love the kind of woman who can kick my ass
