i am once again at it w/ misc writing questionarres LMAO. original here
1) Do you prefer writing with pen and paper or in an online document?
idk why options are pen and paper or online document, but i prefer typing on computer all the time. pen+paper is just too slow (but i type 100wpm so uh. you can imagine why it's too slow.)
2) How long have you been writing?
been writing since i was like 10 so basicaly 15 years now. (it's been 11 years that i've been writing "seriously")
3) Have you taken any writing classes?
no classes on how to write fiction; frankly i do not think they're necessary LMAO
4) Do you have an AO3, Fanfic.net, Wattpad, etc.?
i never had a wattpad but i got ao3, ffn is up as long as its up even if i don't use it, i got a dw but i'm not active in any dreamwidth fanfic communities lol, it's mostly dumping ground for contextless AUs that only me and 1+2 other friends understand and/or shit i just don't feel like formally putting on ao3
5) What's your favorite genre to write?
trauma recovery isn't a genre but god it should be. what's the genre that's just "characters sitting around talking and introspecting" becuase it's that one, is the thing. that's my favorite
6) What's your least favorite genre to write?
least favorite genre to write is shrugs. i don't bother writing shit i don't want to write so i don't have opinions as strong as a least favorite genre.
7) Do you often read books/other fics as reference?
i don't necessarily read books/other fics for reference lol i just read for fun and then sometimes it inspires me. in fact i can remember precisely once i read for reference (AND IT DIDN'T EVEN DO ME ANY GOOD BC I DIDN'T START THE WIP WHEN I INTENDED TO LMAO)
8) Do you write professionally, or just for fun?
i write for fun and i never intend to change that lol
9) How much time do you spend writing on an average day?
on average i spend about an hour writing at least lksjfljsdfs it's basically my wind down for bed routine.
10) Are you confidnet about your writing?
i am extremely confident about my writing
11) How many writing-related accounts do you follow?
other than friends i follow zero writing related accounts
12) Is it okay for people to ask about your writing process?
ppl can totally ask about my process if they really want (unfortunately it's not exciting it's literally just get idea > sit down > word machine go brr. sometimes i pepper that with talking to a friend about it to vent excitement / juice up power / hammer the idea)
13) Do you keep your writing personal, or do you write things for others?
i publish more writing than i don't, probably only 10% i keep to myself - like i first and foremost write for me (knowing that my friends are also gonna love it, probably) but i just also share everything lol. it has nothing to do with writing for others, just sharing what i wrote for me
14) Do you ever collaborate with others?
i don't like regularly collaborate with others outside of hey here's my lore run with it if you like and we can write multiple things same universe - THO I MEAN I GUESS BUILDING THE PLOT OF A FIC IN DMS WITH MY FRIENDS COUNTS AS COLLABORATION EVEN IF I'M THE ONLY ONE PUTTING WORDS ON A PAGE. also rp counts, bite me
15) How long does an average piece take you to complete?
how long a piece takes me to complete depends solely on how long it is. if it's 1k i can finish it in a night or two. i've written 10k in a week before. 50k takes approx a month. and so on, and so on.
16) Do you write more today than you did in teh past, or do you write less?
i'd say i write about as much now as i did before - maybe slightly less in that i'm no longer in the "14 y/o, no friends, spends 24/7 writing" stage of my life but i'm still writing basically every day so
17) Do you think you're justified in giving other people writing advice?
...is a weird question bc it's not like any of us are more or less valid. we don't have stamped cards of approval as writing advice masters. like i've been doing this seriously for 11 years, so i'd say i know things, but i'm no more or less qualified than anyone else giving writing advice lol (and the only advice that matters is: if you're enjoying yourself you're fine. enjoying yourself is all that matters) (...this is a joke lol like it is what i beleive most strongly but i understand in Published Fiction TM it gets a little different - however u writing fanwork? shit ur just posting onine for fun? quality doesn't matter - in fact quality will just naturally come to you as you have fun)
18) What are you currently trying to improve on?
fucking idk, establishing things better so canonblind ppl can read my fics? at lesat re: descriptions of character's appearance if nothing else LMAO. dialogue machien go brr.
19) What is the most difficult thing for you to write?
most difficult thing for me to write is scenery layout. it's not that i'm not imagining it, its that i cannot ever find a point in the flow of the scene to bring it up that doesn't feel like it's weighing the scene down too much
20) What's the easiest thing for you to write?
easiest thing for me to write is always and forever dialogue (but character introspection comes second imo)
21) Do you like challenging yourself?
i like having fun, so. if the challenge doesn't sound fun i'm not going to bother.
22) Are you confident that you're improving steadily?
oh absolutely lol i have physical proof of that but also anyone who does a craft of any sort regularly just improves. you don't not improve. that's not a thing that can happen.
23) Do you write more fanfic or more original pieces?
i write almost primarily and exclusively fanfic. in fact i haven't written an original piece in prob 5 years now lol. nothing against them i just simply lack ideas and hyperfixation juice and i'm having fun where i am so like
24) Do you feel more jealous or inspiried reading other peoples' works?
i feel mostly inspired reading other ppl's works-- the closest i get to "jealous" is "oh wow they write x character so well, maybe my portrayal sucks--" before i remind myself it first of all doesn't matter and also normally that's never true. still. huge salute to everyone who's made me think that you're doing an incredible job and i love gently slurping up vibes from your portrayals to apply to my own
also shout out to Harro the Ninth which shot me so full of writing juice i had to stop several times to pound out ideas
25) Do you like to write in silence, or while listening to music?
i write while listening to music, but i also spend 24/7 listening to music and don't do silence well so uh. this might have nothing to do with writing
26) What word processing programs/websites do you use to write?
i'm a filthy MS word elitist-- but also gdocs has only JUST caught up to having all the ms word features i need to organize my fics. also making a swap is unecessary when you already have a family member paying for ms office for job and so you can mooch. also i've been using it for 11 years i don't know anything else much better than i know this, the learning curve for a new program would just hinder me i think. AND. also. listen to me. when you have 12k word documents, making a change to another program just does not sound appealing.
27) Do you make in-depth plans/outlines for fics, or do you jump right in?
i normally just jump right in - like, if it's a long work i'm not going to be able to finish in a day or two it gets an "outline" but that's usually just "5 bullet points of what i still need to cover" for <5k works and "maybe three pages of where i generally want the plot to go along with stored dialogue snippets i got while biking or cleaning the dishes" for fics >20k. however my current wip is 10k and i do not have an outline other than the bullshit i've said about it in DMs lol
28) Do you prefer to write oneshots or chaptered fics?
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh bold of u to assume i think about this. word machine simply go brr. a fic is only ever as long as it needs to be. whether or not it gets split into chapters depends ultimately on the length (i'm nice i won't put 100k in a single chapter, probably) and how exactly it gets split into chapters depends on the vibe of the fic. ywkon1 got split into chapters mostly for ease of the readers. ywkon2 is a classic chaptered fic. 24.8 doesn't have chapters as much as it has acts. and so on, and so on, and
29) How do you usually come up with ideas for fics?
these days i don't come up with ideas as much as aera says something stupid to me and i go wait no no, you're onto something, and then suddenly i have 10k. honestly shooting ideas around w/ friends is best way to come up with ideas imo. then you can brainstorm plot and dialogue and see where the idea takes you. collaborative!!! idk
30) What inspires you not just to write, but to become a better writer?
love this question do not vibe with this question. i have never wanted to become a "better" writer in my life. i am simply here because writing fic is fun to me. if i spent all day worrying about the quality of my fics or about "improving" my "craft", i would never write at all, i think, bc then it's a chore.
((ONCE AGAIN; IMPROVEMENT COMES NATURALLY IF YOU JUST KEEP DOING THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. YOU DON'T NECESSARILY NEED TO WORK TO IMPROVE. THAT'S WHY HAVING FUN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU COULD EVER DO!!!!!))
