rarsneezesoh my god i had so many notes about this dywc fic i couldn't shove them at the bottom so here they are
- I’m laughing that I was like heheh just a short fic about Colette and martel before [redacted] and then this is the second-longest dywc fic. the other long ones usually involve a conflict of some kind, this one is just [gestures]
- however having a chance to line out how bonkers the ywkon connections to each other are WAS appreciated, like, having the characters acknowledge it, all in one fell swoop... it was neat
- and also I got distracted by character boundaries. Yes I think abyss Jade is enough of an asshole that—if he had processed preemptively that sneaking up on Riku was a bad idea—he still would have done it. it’s worth testing, in his mind, just how bad Riku’s startle response is, and if it results in a weapon being drawn or not, and if so what kind of weapon, and through what means, and so on. Jade voice I could totally survive nearly getting stabbed, this surely will go fine. // BUT ALSO I THINK JADE PROBABLY, LIKE, hadn’t quite put it all together. He knows that Riku has a problem with lightning-based magic but that does not automatically equal “sneaking up on him is a bad idea”
- I think the ftp kids deserve to be clingy. Riku and namine aren’t even dating anymore (it wasn’t working out for them) and still!!!! Clingy :)
- ....full disclosure this is one part riku needs the comfort and three parts he still has a reflex “OH GOD PROTECT NAMINE” instinct, which he’s gotten better about NOT letting dictate every decision he makes but “someone just walked up behind him and he didn’t notice” is grounds to not only startle but also put himself between said person and Namine, just in case!
- jade who is doing several galaxy brain shit on what he’s learning about riku and namine’s world like hm fascinating hm riku’s got the reflexes of either a kid who’s been abused or a trained soldier. A child soldier? A replica child soldier??? All of these options suck. Why would that exist in their world when Namine had no concept of government or war. Fascinating.
- tho actually it’s funny I think Namine does have a concept of “war” because [gestures at the Replica rebellion bullshit in Dead Inside] but she would not use the term war to describe that I think and I have been idly rotating her and Jade quibbling over the semantics of that (does it count as a war when each side only has like fifty people max? and when the real threats on the opposing side is a group of literally six guys?) while Jade slowly loses his mind about the fact that this happened. THIS is why there’s ethical concerns wrt making replicas of living people, guys, but also the political landscape of namine’s universe makes NO sense
- also I hope one of the ftp kids had to explain what a heartless or a nobody was. I don’t think Jade would have any difficulty understanding the concept but I do think he’d be like why is that world so strangely fascinating, what is happening over there, and be like dying to know more. Lucky for him Riku infodumps on reflex and Joseph trips over himself any moment there is a chance TO infodump, but he hasn’t met Joseph yet, and I’m not sure how much Joseph knows about heartless, anyway. Meanwhile Riku wishes one of the Vexen replicas he likes more was here to handle the explanations
- “the parallel universe stuff?” ftpverse wasn’t really a story About the parallel universe stuff, but every one of the main cast is well aware that riku is from a different universe. They’ve had multiple conversations with the group from the universe he was actually created in and everything. Colette’s family tree nonsense / the fact that ywkon has a parallel version of like half the dywc cast even if not all of those people are HERE is just a normal Tuesday for the ftp kids
- even Jade knows about parallel universes because I was like haha it’d be funny if he remembered weird soup happened (that was a fic I wrote about ywkon jade and Mythra crashing totabyss) so he’s. interacted with a parallel universe version of himself before. Even if it’s not a typical Tuesday for him or whatever
- riku who thinks a lot about this stuff sometimes without meaning to like wait can. Blades even have kids. And Colette just like PLEASE don’t worry about it.
- jade has also asked her about this. She doesn’t know how to respond. How do you even say that this only works with kratos, and probably only works because kratos. Well. ((if you’ve read ywkon or earlier dywc installments such as my heart is housed in ironworks, you’ll know,))
- oops I accidentally 6000 words and climbing because I care that much about going over funny worldbuilding details. I DID say I wanted jade to get some of the funny worldbuilding stuff in tho since I KNOW he’s thought about it I just have never given him the chance to discuss it, so here we are
- i got to 8500 words!! which is a lot more than i was expecting!!!!! and that was AFTER writing a whole infodump between riku and colette wrt what an aegis is capable of that i had to scrap because the flow of it was just godawful, which is a damn shame becuase i miss riku fumbling over totally normal things heart magic can do. let me go dig up some of my tweets
- the ftp kids are SO fucking chatty and i don't like,,,,,,, feel the need to deny them, why NOT get repliku taking an aside to go "i have never heard of a god/goddess in my life but here we are today i guess" the whole point of this is series is funny character introspection
= repliku voice waht do you mean there are people who can just fundamentally change the fabric of reality. can't anyone do that with funny heart magic. no?
- repliku: idk a person who can just create a whole world on a whim seems weird to me

- honestly having teh kh cast in general against other jrpg charactters is so funny because even for a jrpg kh is so. it doesn't have anywhre close to the same worldbuilding wrt politics and gods that are jrpg staples otherwise
= AND LIKE MOST OF KH'S MAGIC BEING BASED ON *MANIPULATING YOUR CONNECTIONS TO OTHER PEOPLE, CONSCIOUSLY OR OTHERWISE* IS....... i'm sure it exists outside of kh but there's not a single character in dywc who isn't a kh who has anything like that At All
