quest 8!! the gang discusses the ethics of resurrection and then dist talks jade into,.... listening???/

**CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR RAYS MAIN QUEST IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT THOSE!!!**

[IX AND MILEENA STANDING THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS]
ix: i hope this is far enough...
mileena: we should be hard to follow in this mist, but...
dist: ....
anise: dist!! put libera down!!! we have to treat him!!
dist: ... oh, yes, right
natalia: tear! lend me a hand.
tear: of course!
[jade singles dist out]
jade: and just what were you thinking
dist: it's no use, is it? you've abandoned everything.
jade: saphir!
dist: but it's true. in our own world, you'd abandoned resurrecting professor nebilim. And when we came to this new world, despite the new means and technology that were right under your nose, your priority was prolonging that replica's life
luke: ....
[TLN: the framing of the scene implies by "that replica" he means luke...? it's the only way this makes sense]
mileena: did you really give up, jade?
jade: you're the one who said that, not me
luke: mileena! jade regrets ever making the replica of professor nebilim...
luke: and mileena, you... maybe you don't get it, but since you inherited gefion's memories...
mileena: yes.... gefion has regrets, too. but what she regrets is having destroyed the world... and if there had been a way to resurrect the first ix without changing the world, or bothering anyone.... surely she would have reached out her hand without losing her way. that's how i feel.
[TLN: the main plot of rays is wild and i was not aware of any of these things until Right Now, so]
luke: that's...
[camera shifts to tear, asch, ion, guy. they all look sad, or perhaps uncomfortable] [really entranced by asch's :( face tbh]
guy: resurrecting the dead, huh...? i'm sure everyone who's ever lost someone important has thought about it at least once.
tear: yeah... and since there isn't an ordinary way to do that, beyond that point it might be hard to move on
asch: and there's that other guy we saved, back at base. not that i planned on talking about the pros and cons of this with him.
asch: but we each have our own circumstances, even if we aren't going around talking about them. moreover, whether or not you can say resurrecting the dead is the right thing... i don't want to puzzle that one out.
ion: i can't blame you. it's hard to say whether or not it's really ethical...
dist: whether or not it's ethical has nothing to do with whether or not it's right. and the theory on what must be right changes depending on who you're talking to. the time and place can change the theory just as well.
anise: if... it really wouldn't cause any trouble for anyone else, then... i think i'd want to resurrect someone, too
ion: ....
ix: i think about this all the time. in this world... we've resurrected a lot of people who died in their original worlds... i don't know if i can say that we were right, but i thought that if there was a way to persever those lives, i would want to do it, and since they were resurrected, i want to protect them. that's what i've been fighting for all this time. but...
ix: i don't think us living souls who want to resurrect the dead can ever know what the people who died really think
jade: ...is that what the voices of the dead are telling you?
ix: yeah, i guess so. the me before your eyes right now... since i've been resurrected, i have a hunch i wouldn't do something like that. but i don't know. nor do i have any idea about general nazar.
ix: and of course i think there's a lot of people who have regrets and want to be resurrected. but i dont think it's something we can understand.
ix: there are people who want to resurrect the dead. and there are people who think the dead should be left the way they are. sitting around in this circumstances debating about it is kind of silly, isn't it
natalia: if we're going to respect the wishes of those who have passed, then just because we have the means to resurrect them doesn't necessarily use it.... is what you mean, right?
dist: if that's the case, then shouldn't we listen to what professor nebilim has to say? in this world we have a spirit who can control time. and right here with us we have someone who can be used to call lorelei.
jade: saphir. that nebilim is a replica. even if we rewind time for her, she won't inherit any memories
dist: replicas are made from their originals! if we turn back time for the time for the replica, then there's a chance it will affect the original
jade: all that will happen is she'll disappear
dist: you won't even try, jade!?
jade: ...if i agree to try, will that finally make you understand?
luke: jade!?
dist: yes. i refuse to give up.
jade: then let's try. but if it doesn't go smoothly, i'll kill her myself.
everyone: !!
jade: i was listening to your conversation with professor nebilim. there is already no point to this.
jade: moreover, there's a great number of innocent people in my care. i'm not looking to repent, you know. but we are responsible for her birth.
dist: that's fine
luke: jade! wouldn't it be better to try and talk to nebilim? don't make a decision like that just yet--
jade: luke...
luke: sorry. i get it. i won't run my mouth.
luke: but i'm... i'm a deteriorating replica, too. i understand, i do, but i hate it...
asch, looking away: .....
luke: maybe for nebilim, there's a chance--
jade: luke. i understand. for your sake, i'll consider talking to her. so just let me do things the way i want to, this time.
luke: ...okay

> ix used a lot of complicated language about an abstract concept so idk how accurate that all is, Nor Do I Know What Jade Meant When He Asked If Ix Was Hearing Voices Of The Dead...... might be a lore thing i havent hit in main plot yet LMAO

> i feel fairly confident in my tanslation as a whole but im not promising this is errorless... its just me and no fact checkers
